Our History
Over the years, Goebel Construction has built a strong reputation for quality and reliability in the Bay Area. We began our journey with foundational expertise in civil and sitework services, gradually expanding our capabilities to meet the growing demands of our clients. This growth and diversification led to our evolution into a comprehensive, full-service construction firm serving a wide range of industries.
1976
Founded by Duane & Joanne Goebel in 1976, Goebel Construction began its journey under the name “Goebel Paving, Grading, and Underground,” reflecting its foundational expertise in civil and sitework services. Initially focused on paving & grading, the company built a strong reputation for quality and reliability in the Bay Area.
1980
Began services for Bay Area refineries and expanded from a grading and paving contractor a prime contractor tackling larger capital and routine maintenance projects within these facilities.
1989
Started a mechanical piping division to have the self-performing capabilities on heavy industrial projects.
1990
Greg Goebel Sr. assumes role as president and CEO.
1999
Goebel expands into government contracting, landing major contracts with the department of energy.
Early 2000’s
Company continues on an upward trajectory, adding many successful project executions to its portfolio, while expanding its workforce and reputation locally in the bay area.
2013
Goebel Paving, Grading, & Underground changes its name to Goebel Construction, Inc. to better represent the wider breadth of work we perform.
2015
Goebel Construction, Inc. is asked to play a large part in a turnaround for the Chevron Richmond Refinery. This leads to the creation of the company’s Turnaround Division in which it would go on to successfully execute 12 more turnarounds from 2015 to 2022 locally.
2016
Awarded a federal maintenance contract that would spawn the creation of an entire division of the company to serve the majority of the Western United States.
2020
Completed one of its largest turnarounds to date during the peak of the pandemic. The event was one of the most successful in recent refinery history, while Goebel employed nearly 300 employees for the event and had ZERO recordable injuries.
2023
Launch a strategic 5-year business plan aligned with the energy transition economy, focusing on expanding our expertise into new and emerging markets. Our goal is to collaborate on and execute cutting-edge projects across the Western United States.
2024
Greg Goebel Jr. (3rd Generation) assumes the CEO position.
